Resistance Movement Will Increase Pressure on Pashinyan With New Tactics

YEREVAN, ARMENIA – Vice-President of Armenia’s Parliament, ARF Supreme Council Chairman Ishkhan Saghatelyan, said on Friday that the “Resistance” movement will be utilizing new tactics aimed at ousting Nikol Pashinyan.

Saghatelyan noted that the protests, which have been going on for six weeks, with thousands of protestors flooding the streets daily, will not die down and that the opposition has no plans to end them until Pashinyan is forced to resign.

“Yes, we need a new tactic,” Saghatelian told reporters. “Therefore, there may be changes in our steps and actions. Right now we are engaged in active discussions and will change some steps and actions.”

“The movement cannot die down because its collapse or suspension would mean a defeat for the Armenian people,” he said.

A national coalition comprised of opposition parties in and outside the Armenian parliament have rallied tens of thousands of citizens demanding Pashinyan’s resignation over his defeatist positions regarding Artsakh and his government’s pro-Turkish overtures. The opposition began its movement by setting up a tent camp on May 1 in Yerevan’s “France” square. In April, Pashinyan announced his intention to “lower the bar” on the status of Artsakh, implying that his government would conceded to granting Azerbaijan sovereignty over Artsakh.
