On September 9, through the initiative of Artsakh Union and its president, Artak Beglaryan, the first Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Luis Moreno Ocampo, met with several active representatives of Artsakh’s civil society. The meeting focused on issues related to the protection of the rights of the people of Artsakh.
Participants expressed concerns over Azerbaijan’s alleged actions in Artsakh and discussed the need to hold Azerbaijani authorities accountable. Additional topics included securing the right of return for displaced Artsakh citizens, the release of military and political hostages held in Azerbaijan, and other pressing issues.
Addressing the audience, Ocampo stated that while he was generally informed about the situation, he wanted to hear directly from the attendees to better understand the challenges faced by Artsakh Armenians. He offered advice on the issues raised and emphasized the importance of Artsakh Armenians uniting to amplify their voice on the global stage. He highlighted the potential of involving the Armenian diaspora in advocating for their cause.
Ocampo also mentioned the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29), scheduled to be held in Baku. He stressed the importance of raising awareness among conference participants about the genocidal actions of the Aliyev regime in Artsakh, noting that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is making efforts to prevent the topic of Artsakh from being addressed during the event.
Despite the challenges, Ocampo urged the people of Artsakh to continue their fight, expressing confidence that they are not alone. He underscored the need to take proactive steps to expand their network of allies and supporters around the world.
