Consul General Hosts Meeting with Lilit Makunts

GLENDALE, CA – On Monday, April 11, the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles invited the three classical Armenian political parties, community organizations and spiritual leaders to a meeting that was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United States of America, Lilit Makunts.

Daron Der Khachadourian, Chairperson of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western United States of America Central Committee, attended the meeting to relay the organization’s concerns over the Armenian Prime Minister’s recent statements limiting the Armenian Cause to the Diaspora, along with its concerns over the concessions envisaged in the Armenia-Turkey-Azerbaijan talks.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador was handed a letter from the ARF Western United States of America Central Committee, the complete text of which is included below:

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United States of America Lilit Makunts

Considering the current political crisis in Armenia, the danger of the Turkification of Armenia, the threat of the displacement of the Armenians from Artsakh, and the Armenia-Turkey-Azerbaijan talks, the Central Committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western United States of America states with concern:

A. The recent statement of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia regarding the Armenian Cause, in which he attributes the Armenian Cause only to the Armenians of the Diaspora, neither corresponds to reality nor promotes Armenia-Diaspora unity, but it undermines the security of Armenia and the Armenian people.

B. The Government of Armenia, with its commitments over the years, is obliged to act as the guarantor of the rights to national self-determination and security of the people of Artsakh, and under no condition can it agree to any final version of Artsakh’s status without the consent of Armenia, the Diaspora, and especially the Armenians of Artsakh.

C. The current political leadership of the Republic of Armenia, as the party responsible for losing the war, is not the most suitable political force to conduct these crucial negotiations with the enemy, but we also call on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia to not distort the history of the Armenian people and future generations, to not distort the rights of Artsakh and its people, and to not deviate from the principles of national security of the Republic of Armenia.
