Los Angeles, CA — The Armenian community in Los Angeles convened at the Armenian Consulate in Glendale on Thursday evening to express solidarity with the ongoing movement in Armenia’s Tavush region, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan. The movement opposes Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent decision to grant four villages in the Tavush region to Azerbaijan, a move that has ignited widespread controversy and unrest.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered, waving Armenian flags and carrying banners, in a vivid display of unity and support for the Tavush resistance. The protest aimed to spotlight the perceived betrayal of Armenian territorial sovereignty and the broader implications for national security and identity.
Archbishop Galstanyan has emerged as a key figure in mobilizing opposition against the land concession within Armenia, advocating for the preservation of Armenian lands and cultural heritage. His leadership has resonated with many Armenians, both domestically and globally, galvanizing support and bringing international attention to the issue.
Remarks were made by community leader Levon Baronian, attorney Sarig Armenian of the Armenian Legal Center, Ashot Voskanyan of the organizing Armenian Youth Federation, and others.
Protesters at the rally echoed calls from Tavush, demanding that the Armenian government reverse its decision and resign, allowing for a transitional government to be formed that will defend Armenia’s and Artsakh’s national interests.
