The International Court of Justice, in response to a lawsuit filed by Armenia against Azerbaijan, ruled that Azerbaijan is obliged, pending a final decision on the case, in accordance with its obligations under the Convention, to take all measures in its power to ensure the unhindered movement of people, vehicles and goods along the Lachin corridor in both directions.
“Since December 12, communication along the Lachin corridor has been disrupted, the delivery of food, medicines and other necessary goods to Nagorno-Karabakh has been hindered, which can cause irreparable damage.
“The Court considers that the application of an interim measure is necessary and states that Azerbaijan is obliged to take measures in its power to ensure the unhindered movement of people and goods along the Lachin corridor in both directions. The Court considers that the lack of food and medicine can lead to irreversible consequences for people’s lives.
“As for the disruption of gas supplies, Armenia did not provide sufficient evidence related to the problem of gas supply that Azerbaijan creates obstacles,” the decision says.
