YEREVAN, ARMENIA – Protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan over his concessions to Azerbaijan over Artsakh have continued for the fourth consecutive day in the Armenian capital. The protesters clashed with police in central Yerevan on May 4 as tens of thousands took to the streets in the city center to demand that Pashinyan step down.
The situation near the parliament building remained tense on the evening of May 4 after protesters and police jostled and bottles were launched toward security forces in Yerevan, resulting in dozens of arrests.
Authorities warned protesters chanting “Armenia without Nikol” against trying to seize the parliament building, which was cordoned off by over a thousand police officers in riot gear. Earlier in the day truckers briefly blocked a bridge in central Yerevan, telling authorities their vehicles had broken down.
