Glendale, CA – The Armenian Relief Society (ARS) of Western USA is set to host a groundbreaking Mental Health Conference, generously sponsored by Mrs. Khatoun Sarian, on Saturday, May 4, 2024. The event, themed “Moving Past Grief: Resilience and Resistance,” aims to address crucial aspects of mental health including resilience, trauma, and coping mechanisms. It will take place at 517 West Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with check-in starting at 9:30 AM.
The conference will feature a series of talks by distinguished mental health professionals. Nora Chitilian, LMFT, will lead a session titled “Healing and Coping,” focusing on therapeutic strategies to overcome grief and enhance emotional resilience. Following her, Knar Kahkejian, LCSW, will discuss the “Effects of Trauma,” exploring the impact of traumatic experiences on mental health and long-term well-being.
A highlight of the conference will be a special book presentation by Dr. Irina Barseghyan-Krpeyan, a historian, writer, and lecturer from Armenia. Dr. Barseghyan-Krpeyan will discuss her latest work on Tatul Krpeyan and the self-defense efforts in the Getashen sub-district during the conflict in Northern Artsakh. Her presentation will not only shed light on a significant historical event but also connect it to broader themes of community resilience and survival.
The event is open to the public with free admission, and refreshments will be provided. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase Dr. Barseghyan-Krpeyan’s book, adding a unique cultural and educational layer to the event.
The ARS of Western USA is committed to raising awareness about mental health issues within the community and providing support through such informative events. This conference is part of their ongoing efforts to address the mental health needs of the Armenian community in the USA, fostering dialogue, understanding, and healing.
