Armenia and Azerbaijan to Sign Deal by Yearend

Armenia and Azerbaijan intend to sign a peace treaty by the end of the year, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said in an interview with the Public Television.

According to him, the United States has shown active involvement in the matter from the first minutes of Azerbaijan’s offensive on September 13: a phone conversation between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the U.S. Secretary of State was among the first ones to happen.

The first meeting took place at the level of the Foreign Ministers and was organized by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in New York. After that, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan arranged a meeting between Grigoryan and Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev.

“We mainly discussed a number of issues related to Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh. Regarding Nagorno-Karabakh, the main issue on the agenda was how we can create an international mechanism for Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan to discuss the security and rights of Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh “, Grigoryan said.

According to him, there is an agreement to complete the process of delimitation by the end of the year too. The peace treaty and delimitation are interrelated, he added.
