Pasadena, CA – The much-anticipated documentary The Price for Fake Peace will premiere on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 7:30 PM at the AGBU Performing Arts Center in Pasadena, California. Presented by HART Line Productions and Channel 5+, the film sheds light on one of the most pivotal periods in Armenian history, exploring the devastating consequences of misplaced trust in false promises of peace.
Directed by Mariam Yegoryan, the documentary features archival research and narration by Derenik Malkhasyan, bringing a deeply historical perspective to the events leading up to the Battle of Sardarapat in April-May 1918. As Russian troops withdrew from the Caucasian front, the Turkish army launched a new offensive against Armenia, demanding the surrender of Kars and Alexandropol (now Gyumri) in exchange for peace. Based solely on eyewitness testimonies, accounts from participants, and contemporary press publications, the film reconstructs the tragic series of events that saw Armenians, believing in Turkey’s deceptive promises, surrender key cities—only to face massacres and destruction.
As the film details, each concession by the Armenian side led to further demands from the Turks, culminating in the Turkish army reaching the outskirts of Yerevan, where Armenian forces made a final stand at Sardarapat. The battle ultimately prevented the complete destruction of the Armenian nation, marking a turning point in history.
Produced by Harutyun Harutyunyan and Armen Andreasayan, with a screenplay by Levon Galstyan, The Price for Fake Peace blends historical documentation with dramatic storytelling. The cinematography, led by Mushegh Mamikonyan and Tigran Gasparyan, is complemented by Tatos Hakobyan’s evocative musical score.
The film will be screened at 2495 E Mountain St., Pasadena, CA 91104, and is expected to attract a significant audience from the Armenian-American community and beyond. The documentary is presented in Armenian with English subtitles, ensuring accessibility for a wider audience.
