ANCA Local and National Representatives Meet with Senate Majority Leader and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Candidate Bob Hertzberg

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, California – Representatives of ANCA’s Hollywood, San Fernando Valley chapters and national board met with California State Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg, currently running for Los Angeles County’s 3rd Supervisorial District.

“Senator Hertzberg has been a close friend and ally of the Armenian-American community throughout his tenure in the California State Legislature,” remarked Dr. Avo Babian, chair of the ANCA San Fernando Valley – East chapter. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with him to support the Armenian community in the San Fernando Valley and throughout Los Angeles County.”

As Senate Majority Leader, Hertzberg has played a crucial role in the passage of legislation supporting the interests of the Armenian-American community through the state legislature. Most recently, Senator Hertzberg was listed as a principal co-author of the California-Syunik Sister State Agreement championed by Assemblymember Chris Holden.

A member of the California Armenian Legislative Caucus, Senator Hertzberg has long sought to be a voice for the over 100,000 Armenian-Americans living in the 18th Senate District – which included North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Northridge, and Sun Valley.

Senator Hertzberg is running for Los Angeles County’s 3rd Supervisorial District, where he would continue to serve a large segment of the population he represented in the Senate. The 3rd Supervisorial District covers much of the San Fernando Valley – including the densely Armenian-populated areas of North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Reseda, Northridge and Woodland Hills. The district also includes Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and parts of Hollywood.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is a 5-person governing body that represents the over 10 million residents of Los Angeles County. It is one of the most powerful legislative bodies in the United States, responsible for an annual budget exceeding $35 billion covering a range of services including jails, transportation, the sheriff’s department, mental health, and child services.

Bob Hertzberg was first elected to the California State Assembly in 1996. After being unanimously elected by both parties in 2000 and 2001, he became the 64th Speaker of the California State Assembly. After leaving the legislature to pursue a successful career as an entrepreneur in the renewable energy industry, he returned to state government in 2014 representing California’s 18th Senate District.
